›Fall days are here at last!
Oct 13 2007
Ah! The relief of cool autumn air! After sweating through most of September and oddly, the beginning of October, we finally have some beautiful fall weather. I adore this time of year, with warm sunshine and cool breezes. We have had the windows open and it is a brisk 60 degrees in the house now! It is actually warmer outside. So, I’m enjoying some time out on our deck. I think I could take a nap out here, it’s so nice! It is supposed to be a great weekend too, highs around 70. It would be a good weekend to go to the wineries. Ah, how I’ve missed wine the past several months! I guess it will taste really good in the spring when I can drink again! Perhaps we can have an alcohol-free picnic this weekend. Brian has been wanting to go camping, but I’m not sure how I feel about sleeping on the ground these days. But maybe I’ll get brave enough in the next few weeks.
I think it will be a short fall. It seems we’ve been cheated out of our nice weather the past few weeks and that winter looms near. It always seems to go directly from hot to cold here. That’s not the reality, of course. It just seems that way. But the weather can be rather erratic. This time of year goes by so fast. It will be halloween in just a couple weeks. I will just be handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters, I guess. No fun plans. We usually have a halloween party, but not this year. Maybe next year we’ll have one again. It will be a different sort of affair, with a babe in tow. But a party’s a party, right? Fun times just the same. It will be Thanksgiving before we know it. We’re planning to visit my family in Alabama. I’m not looking forward to the car trip. I’ll have to stop and walk more this time. That drive to Minnesota did me in for days! This trip won’t be quite so long, only about 7 hours. It will be good to see all the family. We are having a shower while we are down, so we should see some folks we haven’t seen in a really long time. It will be nice. Then after Thanksgiving, we’ll be heading back up to Minnesota (flying this time!) for an early December family gathering. Then it will be Christmas already! Brian’s parents will be coming to our house over the Christmas holiday. Hopefully I’ll be feeling alright. I imagine I’ll be pretty huge by then! I heard that it is supposed to be a warm winter. I hope that’s true. I’ve been having visions of myself big as a house slipping and sliding around on ice and snow! I guess that’s not positive thinking!
On the baby front, we have been moving along getting the house ready. I’d mentioned before that we had rearranged the house to make room. It is really nice using our space more efficiently. Having our office on the first floor means fewer trips upstairs and more incentive to keep it tidy and organized! We have the nursery cleaned out, we just have to touch up the paint. We ordered a crib, but it came in scratched up, so we had to order replacement parts. No big deal, as we have plenty of time. We are going to use Brian’s childhood furniture and stain it to match the new crib. Much cheaper than buying all new furniture, and better to reuse than recycle. So we’ll be getting the furniture ready over the next couple months. Then we can start decorating, which is the fun part (for me anyway as I can’t really participate in the painting and staining and such). We’re also reorganizing our closets. So lots of little projects going on. I guess we’re nesting!
